Transport tunnel in Lima, Peru, is planned to be open in 2016

Construction of the road tunnel "Santa Rosa" in the capital of Peru, has been completed by almost 70%.

The mayor of the city Luis Castañeda Lossio announced the news while visiting the construction site.
The tunnel will link districts San Juan de Lurigancho and Rimac. The opening is planned for January, 2016.

Previously the time limit for the construction was 2010, but during the construction some unexpected challenges developed causing delays.

For instance, the digging face vault collapsed in 2011, and two years later 800 sq m of rock blocked the entrance to the tunnel.

It required 10 times more steel to reinforce the structure than it was designed at first.
